I had a really old original type, the kind you had to repeatedly hit the ball quickly with your plam to get it started. It was old and the rotation (not the spinning) was noisy and my grandkids dropped it one day and broke the shell in half. Time for an upgrade. I'm super pleased with this. The rotation is smooth and quiet, the only thing you hear is the fast ball spin. I love the starting mechanism. No more sore hand trying to get it started, just roll the ball backwards and let it go. The lights are great and I try to keep it in the "green" zone. It was like going from driving an old economy car to driving a new luxury car!
